Munster Senior Cup 1st round result: Cobh Wanderers 0-2 Midleton

Wanderers bowed out of the MSC to local rivals Midleton at the first hurdle in Old Church Park today. A largely inexperienced starting eleven failed to deal with the visitors threat in the first half and found themselves two down at half-time. Shane Geasley had the first opportunity for Wanderers after eleven minutes when he put a shot just wide of the right hand post.

Midleton took the lead on 22 minutes when their player found himself in acres of space inside the box before he turned and finished well with a left foot shot. Michael Devine was forced into a couple of fine saves before his goal was breached again just before half time with a simple header from a free kick on the right. Midleton looked certain to make it three a minute later but Devine pulled off a world class save from the wingers attempted chip.Devine had to make another good stop from TJ early in the second half before Wanderers took a foothold in the game. Despite a number of good chances created the Midleton defence made some very good blocks and stood firm to the end for a deserved victory on the day.
